The 2013 Atlantic Cup
May 13, 2013

Good morning all-

It was a busy 24 hours for Team GS2, as we experienced light air for most of the day yesterday as we tried to get past Cape Hatteras. The joke between Tristan and I was that our computer screen was stuck with the image of Hatteras that wouldn't refresh.

We finally moved north of it in the afternoon and with the wind from the NNE - just the direction we need to head to NYC - we elected to bore off on starboard tack towards the Outer Banks of North Carolina and on up towards Chesapeake bay. During the night the winds rose to 25 plus knots so we had a good time reefing the main and changing down from our larger solent jib to the staysail on a pitching foredeck with blue water coming over the bow. Refreshing. The water and air temperature dropped quickly and we were soon soaked and freezing, but we have continued to pound into it until daybreak and hopefully some warmer temps.

So, while the scoreboard does not look too good at the moment for the lads from GS, as Monty Python said, "we are not quite dead yet" and we ask that you keep the faith, as we are still in the third quarter with 250 miles left to race, but it is looking like we might need some divine intervention and a good passing lane to reach the podium.  Hope springs eternal here as we turn and pray hourly to Aeolus, god of winds, and then heat up water for more hot cocoa.

Enjoy your  Monday...  and stay thirsty my friends -
Joe
