Pre-Race - 2012 Newport-Bermuda Race
June 15, 2012

Hello Friends-

We are preparing for the start of the Newport-Bermuda race, and my co-skipper Tristan Mouligne and I are looking forward to a fast race.  The current weather forecast is for Northeasterly winds of building velocity, which is good for the Southeasterly rhumb line course to Bermuda. It may be the first time in a very long time that we may have a downwind spinnaker start.

While I am seriously licking my chops at this prospect, I am also a cynic, having seen these pre-race forecasts dissolve into the dreaded "light and variable from the south."  Many a Bermuda race has been spent slatting about South of the gulf stream, contemplating the meaning of life and how bad a person you would really be to turn on your engine and power in to your waiting family and bar.

But looking on the bright side, it is looking like a fast race, and these blast reaching conditions are tailor-made for GryphonSolo2.  So, we are pumped and ready to rumble...; to  go fast and to get wet.  Sailing is a water sport, I am told.

Looking forward to a 3:30pm start and great racing to the onion patch.

More to follow-
Joe
