Joe Harris arrived at New England Boatworks early this morning to complete his qualifying sail for The Transat single-handed transatlantic race. It was an uneventful ending to a pretty eventful trip. After days of strong winds and large, uncomfortable seas, Joe found himself drifting slowly without wind until the outline of land finally appeared on the bow of Gryphon Solo. As dawn broke on a crisp, clear day he sailed slowly into Newport and finally threw the docklines ashore in Portsmouth, RI just after breakfast.
Today will be spent cleaning the boat and working on that never-ending worklist. Tonight will be spent catching up on sleep, a commodity that's been in short supply since leaving Charleston. Stay tuned for Joe's full report to follow.
